Renault will release a series of two electric cars - Twizy ZE and Zoe ZE


    On Friday, the company Renault has confirmed its plans for mass production of two electric vehicles, built on the explanation of the concept cars ultra Twizy ZE and a small compartment Zoe ZE, tells the magazine Autocar. Production of the first one in 2011, will be established at the Spanish plant in the city of Valladolid, and the second - in France, a year later.

    It is expected that the French Renault factory in the town of Flaine become a kind of center for the development programs of the company to produce to the market of compact electric - at this facility will meet the key models of electric vehicles, as well as to production and processing of batteries used in the propulsion machinery. In "Reno" suggest that the model Zoe will have two-thirds of the total European sales of electric vehicles.

    As previously reported, the concept car Renault Zoe ZE equipped with 95-horsepower electric motor, receiving energy from lithium-ion batteries. These batteries provide a vehicle movement over 160 kilometers, and their charge from household electrical outlet will take from four to eight hours. Compact car Twizy ZE were equipped electric power of 20 horsepower and can travel without recharging about 100 kilometers. Maximum speed of the prototype was 75 kilometers per hour.



    We note that on Friday, the alliance Renault-Nissan has also negotiated with the Atomic Energy Commission and the Strategic Investment Fund, the French agreement of intent to establish a joint venture that will investigate, the transfer of industrial production and recycling of batteries for electric vehicles. Renault plans to produce batteries at plants in France, Britain and Portugal.

    The Mazda RX-Z concept is a proposal for a 2+2 sports coupe to replace the aging Mazda RX-8. The design was conceived by Andrus Ciprian, a design student from Romania whose previous work includes the Dacia MC concept.     The RX-Z was developed as Ciprian puts it; "as a link between fossil fuel cars and more ecological ones." To achieve this the proposed drivetrain for the concept includes a 3.0 litre V6 diesel engine up front - which replaces the notoriously thirsty rotary engine from the RX-8. And a pair of electric motors at the rear. Under normal conditions the RX-Z would be driven solely by the diesel engine. But at low speeds around town the electric drive can be used on its own for emission free motoring. At higher speeds the electric motors work in conjunction with the V6 engine to provide a boost function. A start/stop technology which is integrated into the engine further increases fuel efficiency.
    RX-Z concept is equipped with four doors. The rear doors are half-sized and hinged at the rear. This helps to disguise them into the bodywork and reduce their impact on the flowing lines of the car.Mazda RX-Z Concept Sports Car Coupe

    One of the more unusual features of the Mazda RX-Z concept is the rear light panel. In the middle is a display screen which can light up with any text written by the driver. Presumably you can only 'write' on the back of your car when stopped, otherwise this would be one surefire way of either getting in a crash or getting in trouble!

Volkswagen L1 Concept Redefines Classic and Aesthetic vehicle traits.


    Volkswagen L1 Concept

    In the world today the
    Volkswagen L1 Concept is unique. Thanks to a carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) body, it weighs just 380 kilograms. The two-seater is powered by a new common rail turbo-diesel (two-cylinder TDI) and an electric motor. With its average fuel consumption of 1.49 litres diesel per 100 kilometres, this fully road-ready and extremely aerodynamic L1 (Cd 0.195!) is advancing to become the most fuel-efficient hybrid automobile in the world. CO2 emissions of the 160 km/h fast concept car are just 39 g/km. If the Volkswagen L1 were to also go into production in 2013, it would debut an entirely new lightweight car concept and introduce a new era in automotive production.
    The TDI, E-motor and 7-speed DSG are located at the rear, and they combine to create the most fuel efficient road-legal car hybrid drive in the world. Proof of this are its 1.38 litre per 100 kilometres fuel consumption and 36 g/km CO2 emissions.Naturally, the Volkswagen L1 also has a Stop-Start system that automatically shuts down the engine when vehicle has stopped and restarts when the accelerator or E-pedal is pressed.
    The TDI engine in the
    Volkswagen L1 Concept is a new development. Yet, even here Volkswagen has been able to exploit synergies to design an engine that is both innovative and cost-effective.
    Gear shifting work aboard the Volkswagen L1 is handled by the 7-speed DSG, which is one of the most innovative automatic transmissions in production.
    The Volkswagen L1, equipped with ABS and ESP, has a top speed of up to 160 km/h - this is remarkable considering its fuel efficiency. With maximum acceleration from a standstill, the two-seater reaches 100 km/h after just 14.3 seconds. The fuel tank holds just ten litres yet, this is sufficient for a theoretical driving range of about 670 kilometres, given the car's 1.38 litre average fuel consumption.

    Volkswagen L1 Concept

    Talking about car driving as 'piloting' might sound out of place, but in the case of the
    Volkswagen L1 it is wholly appropriate. The driver (in the CFRP tube frame seat) and passenger (in the fixed CFRP seat that is part of the monocoque) sit one behind the other.
    To start the Volkswagen L1, the driver pushes a button on the right side of the steering wheel. When it is rotated, the round start button simultaneously serves as a gear selector switch and is used to activate the electronic handbrake (Drive, Neutral, Reverse and Park). The entry canopy and rear hatch are opened electrically by touch controls to the left and right of the driver. Also designed as touch sensors are controls for the entire air conditioning control system. Via multifunctional keys in the steering wheel, the driver controls the on-board computer, navigation and entertainment systems.
    The classic door mirror and rear-view mirror have been completely eliminated on the Volkswagen L1. In their place, cameras display images on OLED-active (OLED = organic light emitting diode) displays located on the left and right sides of the instrument panel. A Park Distance Control (PDC) system makes parking easier as well.
    Both technically and visually, the CFRP body is already a significant achievement in car design. Unique on this car: the proportions of its dimensions. While the length of the Volkswagen L1 at 3,813 millimetres is still similar to that of a Volkswagen Fox, and its height of 1,143 millimetres nearly matches that of a Lamborghini Murciélago, the car's aerodynamically optimised width (1,200 millimetres) has no comparisons in the world of today's production cars.
    The two-seat monocoque, including the tubular frame driver's seat and passenger seat as well as the exterior body skin, all consist of CFRP. There are no doors. Instead, the driver and passenger climb into the Volkswagen L1 from the top.
    The reason that CFRP is the ideal material for the Volkswagen L1 body is demonstrated by considering its weight and strength.
    And there are other advantages: the material's extremely high stress limits and its ideal forming properties for even the most challenging of design features.
    The design and styling of the Volkswagen L1 Concept - function and form - combine to form one uncompromising unit. Walter de Silva, Head of Design for the Volkswagen Group has this to say: "The design of the Volkswagen L1 redefines classic and aesthetic vehicle traits. Especially significant, of course, is how the nearly rocket-shaped lines catch one's attention. All of its moving parts are integrated so accurately that the body resembles a rocket or jet. It is a body that cuts through the air with minimal aerodynamic resistance.

Films' Unpredicted Motorcycle Scene Good for A Laugh!

    Recently, I really enjoyed watching the feel good comedy “Easy Virtue” starring Jessica Biel. I suppose you could say I'm a bit behind in my film viewings--yes, I know it was released in May. In my defense it was exactly during the heightened activities of International Female Ride Day —busy times at MOTORESS!
    The story was terrific –it's Stephan Elliott's screen adaptation of an early Noël Coward play he wrote in 1924. A tale of “Old World manners vs. New World freedom”. John Whitaker (Ben Barnes) has just married a feisty, brash, beautiful, widowed American (from Detroit) race car driver named Larita (Jessica Biel).
    It follows the labours of Larita, whom John, met in Monaco and impulsively marries.
    When he returns home with Larita on his arm, his mother (Kristin Scott Thomas) is none too pleased and is given to detest her new daughter-in-law.
    And from the moment Larita steps out of John's BMW roadster onto the Whittaker estate, she campaigns for Larita's destruction.
    It's a "girls" movie, one for us with the added bonus of a feisty motorcycle scene that's terrifically comical--even though obviously it's not Biel on the motorbike (maybe its Justin Timberlake!) as seen in the screen shot. Great film which you'll find on your pay-per-view channel or at the rental store.
    A film depicting a free spirited, independently thinking, "misbehavin" adventure seeker, living life by her own set of rules.
    Rent it—you'll love it!

Pac Man Car

    Whoa check out this cool Pac-Man car! A fan in America modified his old car with symbols and colors from the popular arcade game. Painted in the classic red-yellow color scheme and featuring symbols from Pac-Man on the bonnet, wheels and side-doors, the Mr. Pac-Man Car has to be the coolest vehicle inspired by the ’80s video-game.


     
     
     
     

    The owner of the Pac-Man-mobile has not yet been identified, but with the buzz his ride has created on the internet, he’s sure to become a local celebrity very soon. The photos of his amazing car were taken by Da Nes.

Delivering a whopping 104 Nm/ 77 ft lbs of torque, the bike is available in Valencia Orange Translucent & Hero Blue Translucent, both with black wheels.

    Meanwhile the Lightning® CityX XB9SX, is readier than ever for a street fight, with the broad, smooth power of its Thunderstorm™ 984 V-Twin engine, wind deflectors, frame pucks, headlight grille, airbox cover X-guard and new Designer Black wheels. Toronto Cavalcade of Lights - opening celebration


    Torontonians gathered in City Hall's Nathan Phillips Square to listen to music, watch the square light up and see the spectacular fireworks as the Cavalcade of Lights Festival was kicked off on Saturday, November 28, 2009. We wore reindeer antlers and headed onto the elevated walkways running along the edge of the square to get a good view of the stage, the rink and the 50' Christmas tree. The weather was very nice for so late in the year - it's so close to Christmas.



    Scotiabank presented the 43rd edition of the festival with hosts CityNews Meteroligist Michael Kuss and radio personality Maie Potts. Michael made a prediction for the musical guests and the weather for the event and of course he was wrong. Mayor David Millar kicked off the lighting of the square. Most available surfaces had lights and they lit up the evening in white, red and yellow.



    Musical guest stars were Steven Page, Matt Dusk, Keshia Chante and Fritz Helder and the Phantoms. Each star sang about three songs each.

    Steven Page, formerly of Bare Naked Ladies, looks out into the large crowd. He did a few songs from his past.

    Well dressed crooner Matt Dusk sang from his new album. In this Youtube video I sweep the camera over the large gathering and into the skating rink under the freedom arches while Matt sings his latest single.

    Keshia Chante sings for the large crowd.

    Fritz Helder and the Phantoms take to the stage. This group also had fire jugglers on stilts performing during their songs.


    The rink was packed full of those enjoying the exercise and the music.



    The fireworks created a lot of smoke but made a nice show even though the smoke quickly made it hard to see many of the fireworks, especially those on top of City Hall. Most of the fireworks were sparkler type rockets. One blazing piece fell down onto Bay Street, cordoned off for just such an event.




    Future shows will be held on December 5, 12 and 19 and will also include fireworks. You can see the many people gathered looking towards the stage in this picture. After the fireworks are over a DJ takes over the square until 10 pm.
