2010 Lotus Exige S Car Walls

The British sports car maker introduced an updated version of its popular Exige S for the 2010 model year at the Geneva Motor Show 2009. The 2010 Lotus Exige S has 257 HP, making it the most powerful Exige ever.

The 2010 model year also sees the introduction of a few key changes to the Exige’s exterior to enhance the aesthetics and improve aerodynamic performance. Highlights include a restyled front end and a new, larger, rear wing that not only reduces drag, but also gives a more muscular stance. Witness the 700-horsepower 599XX. It’s about as serious as a sports car gets, but sadly, we’ll never see it on the roads. The 599XX is designed exclusively for the track.

The 599XX is based on the magnificent 599 GTB Fiorano but is a different beast altogether. It’s slathered with all the latest high tech goodies from Ferrari’s racing department and is not aimed merely at the rich. The 599XX, like the FXX before it, is to be sold, in Ferrari’s words, to "a select group of clients," which is to say people are are both rich and want to go wheel-to-wheel during exclusive Ferrari track days. When those few fortunate souls aren't actually behind the wheels of their 599XXs, Ferrari will graciously store them.

Honda lines up CR-Z Concept for Tokyo

Honda CR-Z Concept at the 2008 Los Angeles International Auto Show

The eyes of the bulk of the motoring world may have been focused on Frankfurt in September, but Japanese manufacturers appear to have targeted Tokyo for a series of significant new concepts.

Honda is the latest name on the list – it will reveal the CR-Z Concept 2009, the most recent prototype of a compact sports car using Honda’s IMA technology, at the show. The first version of the CR-Z appeared in Tokyo back in 2007 and now the aim is to put the vehicle on sale by 2010 when it will be the first series-produced sports hybrid car from a major manufacturer. It will also be the first petrol-electric vehicle to use a six-speed manual transmission.

Two more Honda concepts will also make their debut at the event.

Firstly, the EV-N battery electric vehicle, which is inspired by the N360 micro car that was launched in the 1960s, will make an appearance. This small, four-seat car includes solar panels on the roof that can be used to charge the on-board battery.

Also making its debut will be the Skydeck concept – a six-seat hybrid MPV. Still a design study, Honda hopes to position the vehicle as an example of how IMA technology can be placed in a number of different cars to fulfil different needs.

Honda will have plenty of other exciting green vehicles on display at the show including the FCX Clarity, its fuel cell electric vehicle; a new EV-Cub electric motorcycle; and the new U3-X, a one-wheel personal mobility device (

2006 Infiniti M45 Sport Road Test

2006 Infiniti M45 Sport Road Test

The mid-size luxury car market is, quite frankly, overstuffed and bursting at the seams. There’s a veritable alphabet of choices: Acura, Audi, BMW, Buick, Chrysler, Cadillac, Ford, Hyundai, Infiniti, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, Pontiac – they all offer completely competent mid-sizers stuffed full of power, (varying amounts of) prestige, and poise. This is because the mid-size luxo sedan sits in a sweet spot in the market: lots of volume, more prestige than entry-level luxury cars, but a more reachable price tag than top of the line cars. There’s almost more choice than there are buyers.

This is good news for the consumer, of course. There are a lot of these cars fighting for a relatively limited number of consumer dollars, and they have to do everything right. Performance, comfort, build, appearance, prestige – they all need to be there for these customers to sign on the dotted line. And traditionally speaking, there have been two cars that have been the best at that – the BMW 5-series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

    2006 Infiniti M45 Sport

These two cars were basically yin and yang; the Merc’s soft ride and staid styling to the BMW’s crisp suspension and Teutonic minimalism. Obviously, the market has expanded greatly since these car’s respective heydays, and we are blessed with a glut of choice. For those who like to do things differently, it’s worth taking a look at the Infiniti M45 Sport.

The M45 is Infiniti’s flagship model since the demise of the Q45 sedan in 2006. It sits above the G37 sedan in Infiniti’s lineup, and is a traditional front-engine rear-wheel-drive sedan. This is technically the second generation M45, but the first one was a largely forgettable (and unattractive) market flop, so we’ll skip that.

The M45 (and it’s V6-powered brother, the M35) are Americanized versions of the Japanese-market Nissan Fuga sedan. In Japan, the Fuga is available in 250GT, 350GT, and 450GT forms – 2.5L and 3.5L VQ V6’s and the 4.5L VK V8. Here, only the large V6 and the V8 are available.

    m45-3

Let’s talk about that engine, because it’s really the star of the car. The VK45DE is the evolution of the older VH45, which debuted with the original Q45 back in 1989. It’s a 4.5L all-aluminum design, utilizing dual overhead camshafts per cylinder bank and 4 valves per cylinder. Power output is a turbine-smooth 335bhp@6400rpm and 340lb-ft (460nM). It’s only available with a driver-adaptive 5-speed automatic transmission. With a kerb weight of 3995lbs, this gives a pretty healthy power/weight ratio of 185bhp/ton.

The chassis is a stretched version of Nissan’s acclaimed “FM” (for Front-Midship) platform, which also sees duty in the Infiniti G sedan as well as the Nissan 350Z. The engine sits mostly aft of the front axle, which gives a surprisingly neutral weight distribution of 54.1/45.9 front to rear. The M45 sport is rear-drive only, but an all-wheel-drive M45x is available with Nissan’s excellent ATTESSA-ETS 4WD system.

The greasy bits only tell part of the story, though. The Infiniti M45 has a heavy bias towards technology, and the list is immense. For one thing, how about a 14-speaker Bose stereo with Dolby 5.1 surround sound with speakers built into the seats? Then there’s the laser-guided cruise control, lane departure warning system (massively annoying and thankfully defeatable), DVD-based Satellite Navigation, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, a full-color backup camera that pops up in reverse with steering-dependent guidelines, satellite radio, adaptive cornering bi-xenon headlights, 6-disc CD changer… Oh, then there’s the heated and cooled seats, the voice-activated controls for everything, the keyless entry and keyless start, the rain-sensing wipers and automatic headlights… you get the point.

    2006 Infiniti M45 Sport interior

It’s a bit overwhelming, to be honest. Infiniti uses a BMW-like control knob mounted on the center console which is awkward to use and unpleasant to look at. It works, but I’d rather have buttons – what’s so difficult about buttons? Then the lawyers get in on the game, forcing you to be stopped and in park to input a location in the satnav, which is just obnoxious – that’s what passengers are for. Oh, and the lane departure warning – NO. Why would I want something that beeps loudly at me every time i change lanes without using my turn signal? Why in the world? No. Delete. Destroy. Also, why is there no auxiliary input or iPod adapter?

ANYWAY, most of this technology is great. It makes life easier and makes commuting more pleasant. The stereo is absolutely mind-blowing; perfect for hearing every note in Stairway To Heaven at ear-bleeding volume, or being a hippy and listening to NPR. It’s up to you. On road trips, the XM satellite radio is a blessing.

The seats are heavenly – perfectly padded and nicely supportive, and the cooling feature is something you wonder why you’ve never had before on a hot summer day. Long story short, it’s a relaxing, extremely comfortable car to drive – just as you’d expect it to be.

    m45-4

Of course, this is CarThrottle, not Nerdy Electronics Weekly. We are more into torque and tire smoke than satnav and butt massagers. So how does the car drive?

Depress the brake and punch the “Start/Stop” button and the V8 cranks over all by itself. The gauges do a full-sweep and light up, and you’re ready to go. Throttle take-up is surprisingly smooth for a car with an automatic – not such a slushy automatic. The VK45 sounds marvelous, smooth as silk with just enough bark to let you know what’s under the hood.

It’s quite docile around town at low speeds, but put your foot in it and the M45 responds right now. This is the kind of power only a well-designed twin-cam V8 can make; power anywhere. Power only starts to fall off well north of 6,000 rpm. While the M45 is shy a few horsepower on the competition (E550: 382, Genesis V8: 375, 550i: 360, etc.) it never feels anything close to underpowered. The transmission is relatively intelligent for a traditional 5-speed automatic, although the lack of shifter paddles on the steering wheel is a confusing oversight on Infiniti’s part. The M45 sport comes with stiffer suspension than the regular M, as well as 19″ alloys with summer performance tires (245/40/ZR19 Bridgestone Potenza RE050A’s) which stick like glue. Most interesting is the use of Nissan’s proprietary HICAS 4-wheel-steer system, which only comes on the sport model. It’s not nearly as drastic as you’d think, but it gives this big, heavy sedan the kind of turn-in and responses you’d expect from something smaller and lighter. The brakes have no problem dealing with the weight and inertia, and display no signs of fade even in hard driving.

Spyker C8 Aileron (2008)

    Download Video
    Download Wallpapers(23)
The Spyker C8 Aileron is an advanced mid-engine, two-seat sports car, featuring a longer wheelbase than Spyker's existing sports cars, the C8 Laviolette and convertible C8 Spyder. The Aileron is characterized by a distinctive design, lightweight all-aluminium body construction and an uncompromising engineering package. The Spyker C8 Aileron is hand-crafted, using only the finest bespoke materials to create a unique automotive statement.

The Aileron features an all-aluminium V8 engine producing 400 bhp and generating 354 lbs of torque at 3,400 rpm. The engine is paired to a manual six-speed gearbox, driving the rear wheels via a limited slip differential. For the first time, Spyker is offering an optional automatic transmission on the Spyker C8 Aileron. The Aileron delivers a top speed of 300km/h (187 mph) and accelerates from standstill to 60 mph in a mere 4.5 seconds.

Optional features include a turned aluminium dashboard fascia, elegant 19-inch directional rotor wheels, branded Rotorblade(TM), quilted leather detailing for the cockpit and Chronoswiss dashboard instruments. Additionally, complete custom and unique finishes are available for the experienced connoisseur. Customers may also order a 5-piece Louis Vuitton luggage set exclusively made for Spyker.

    Chassis
The Spyker C8 Aileron's all-aluminium space frame was completely redesigned with the objective to increase torsional rigidity and to incorporate an all-new suspension system designed and supplied by Lotus. These characteristics provide an ideal foundation for enhanced vehicle dynamics.

Moreover, the Spyker C8 Aileron's dimensions have been optimised for more interior space and to accommodate the optional automatic gearbox. Compared to the short wheelbase of the first-generation cars - the Spyker C8 Laviolette and C8 Spyder - the wheelbase of the Spyker C8 Aileron is 150 mm longer, providing more driving comfort and stability at high speeds. Its front track has increased by 6.1 inches (155 mm). The total dimensions of the front and rear track are now 63.98 inches (1625 mm) and 64.76 inches (1645 mm) respectively, which improves road handling significantly.

Spyker has put tremendous effort in the spaceframe performance of the Spyker C8 Aileron, specifically the structure's efficiency. The utilisation of modern finite elements and numerical optimisation methods has allowed Spyker's engineers to arrive at an exceptionally stiff structure of 29.500Nm/degree. Rigid-node and load-path technology has been employed in order to ensure that the minimum amount of aluminium is used to achieve this performance, thus reducing the overall weight of the vehicle. The dynamic stiffness characteristics of the structure have been carefully tuned in order to minimise unwanted cabin noises and vibrations, which may otherwise detract from the driving experience. These technologies and measures have allowed Spyker to arrive at the most efficient chassis in its history and certainly one of the best in class.

    Design
The design of the hand-crafted Spyker C8 Aileron represents the latest evolution of Spyker's signature architecture, which is heavily inspired by the company's aviation heritage. In the first-generation cars, the propeller design was consistently applied to many elements of the vehicles. Within the design of the new Spyker C8 Aileron, the emphasis was shifted from the propeller propulsion to the turbine propulsion. As a result, for instance, the bright polished air inlets were converted into turbine-engine-shaped air scoops.

In order to enhance the aerodynamic performance of the car, several changes in styling were made. Most of the shark-like gills have been abandoned, which results in a cleaner, smoother appearance. The front end is now characterized by a larger grille that allows additional cooling. Also the rear diffuser was redesigned for improved functionality. An extra spoiler has been placed under the diffuser, providing additional down force to boost the ground effect produced by the diffuser.

Sometimes practicality gains over design: the split side windows with the characteristic metal frame have been replaced by single-pane side windows that are fully retractable, improving driving comfort.

The outside mirrors, standard in body colour, were redesigned and the mirror body is mounted on two turbine fan blades.
The rear lights are made of LEDs (light-emitting diodes). LED lights were also used for the indicators and the sidelights in the redesigned headlight units. The style of the headlights is particularly eye-catching as they follow the body design more closely. This characteristic styling can be defined as a part of the (future) Spyker identity first seen on the Spyker C12 Laturbie and subsequently in the Spyker D8 Peking-to-Paris, which will use the identical headlight units to those of the Aileron.

The Spyker C8 Aileron is available in 16 standard colours, but customers may choose any colour they wish as an option, as well as the Spyker Squadron GT2 colour scheme. The standard colours have been developed by Sikkens Autolakken Nederland and AkzoNobel Car Refinishes. Spyker selected these companies because of their high quality standards and their ability to meet special requirements. Some of the standard colours have been created especially for the Spyker C8 Aileron.

    Drivetrain
The Spyker C8 Aileron uses the Audi 4.2 litre V8 engine, delivering 400 bhp and is available with two transmission alternatives. The first one is a 6-speed Getrag manual gearbox, with ratios perfectly matched to the V8 engine. A ZF 6-speed automatic gearbox is optional, which comes standard with paddle shifts behind the steering wheel. Both transmissions retain Spyker's trademark exposed gear change mechanism.

    Interior
Thanks to its longer chassis, the Spyker C8 Aileron has more interior space, which results in a higher comfort level and improved ergonomics. The interior, with its signature Spyker attention to detail, is made of the highest quality leather, from the Litano range of the Dutch Royal Tannery Hulshof. The leather interior is available in 14 standard colours, but any other colour - if desired by the customer - can be ordered as an option.

The brushed aluminium dashboard was completely redesigned to suit the new Spyker identity and to improve ergonomics and functionality, including driver and passenger airbags. Air vents are designed in turbine style and the performance and distribution of the air conditioning was improved significantly. A multifunctional LCD display is integrated between the speedometer and the odometer. The middle console accommodates the standard Kharma sound system (see In-Car Entertainment). A turned aluminium dashboard, as well as Chronoswiss (Spyker's watch manufacturing partner) dials and switches, are available as an option.

More space was created around the Spyker's characteristic floor-mounted pedal box. The impression of professional functionality and ergonomic styling is enhanced by the optimised positioning of the door handle and the hand-brake lever.

    In-Car Entertainment
With more cars going into the market and the increased popularity of the iPod and similar products, demand rose for a standard factory-fitted sound system. As a result, every Spyker C8 Aileron will feature a Kharma audio system as standard equipment, incorporating a digital radio, Bluetooth interface, iPod connectivity and a navigation system. The Kharma sound system offers a turbine-shaped control mounted on the central gearlever bar and a dashboard display, paired to six Kharma loudspeakers. It can be upgraded with an optional audio package.

The presence of a Kharma sound system in the Spyker C8 Aileron marks Kharma's debut in the world of automotive entertainment. Kharma International produces high-end audio products, sold worldwide through a network of highly qualified distributors and dealers. All Kharma sound systems are developed, assembled and tested in the Netherlands, with the utmost care by a team of highly engaged specialists. These characteristics of high-quality products and exclusiveness are fully in line with Spyker's brand values of craftsmanship and exclusivity.

    Suspension & Wheels
The Spyker C8 Aileron is fitted with a brand new front and rear independent double-wishbone suspension system developed by Lotus. The new suspension system includes a new kinematic layout of the front and rear suspension, front and rear stabilizer bars, mono-tube dampers, coil over damper steel springs, anti-dive and anti-squat setup for improved handling properties. The suspension components are made of forged aluminium where possible, to keep the vehicle's unsprung weight as low as possible. Shock absorbers are placed vertically within the wishbones.

The Aeroblade(TM) wheels of the first-generation cars are replaced by newly-designed 19-inch alloy wheels. New 12-blade, 19-inch directional rotor wheels, branded Rotorblade(TM), are available as an option. These wheels are inspired by the turbine blades of a jet engine, which hints at the new styling direction while respecting the aviation heritage. The 235/35 size tires in front and up to 295/30 at the rear provide exceptional handling.

    Brakes
The Spyker C8 Aileron's brakes are supplied by AP Racing, a partner from day one. Black brake callipers with Spyker script are standard. Colour-coded callipers with Spyker script can be ordered as an option. Carbon ceramic brakes will be available as an option.

2009 Sport Car Renault Megane Trophy

The 2009 Megane Trophy will go on sale at the end of the year in the form of kit after the completion of its development programme which will enable existing cars to be upgraded.
The 2009 Renault Megane Trophy is based on the new Megane Coupe which is powered by the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s mid-rear 3.5-liter V6 24V engine that produces 360 hp.
The front and rear light units and windscreen are from the Megane Coupe road car while flowing lines of the bodywork was designed from digital simulation technology to improve the aerodynamic.
The Renault Megane Trophy features front splitter which channel air flow to the extractors and rear diffuser and wing that generated downforce. Downforce has improved by 20 % with the refinements to the set-up and drag was reduced by 15 % , which together, represent a gain of almost 40% in terms of the new car’s aerodynamic performance over the previous generation vehicle.

Apart from that, the Megane Trophy also features butterfly doors reminiscent of the world of GT and sports-prototype racing. The V6 3.5 24V engine is mated to a semi-automatic gearbox with the same mechanical features as the current car, including an FIA-homologated sports-prototype tubular chassis, steering wheel-mounted paddle shift, double wishbone suspension with adjustable dampers, 18-inch wheels and Michelin tires.
The power of the standard 330 hp engine was boosted to 360 hp with the help from the new inlet manifold. Rebuild is still at every 5,500 km for the car’s reliability. According to Renault, with the new aerodynamic gains, the extra power from the engine will enable the 2009 Renault Megane Trophy to lap in similar times to those of a Porsche GT3.

2009 Sport Car Audi R8 GT3

Audi Sport will offer a racing sports car specifically developed for customer use in the form of the powerful 500 hp plus GT3 version of the Audi R8 which will be available from autumn 2009. The logistics and factory space required for the AUDI AG customer programme will be created over the next few months in Ingolstadt, Neckarsulm and Györ.
The Audi R8 conforms to the production-based GT3 regulations allowing the car to be fielded in numerous national and international race series.
Because the GT3 regulations prohibit the use of four-wheel drive the Audi R8 comes with the typical GT rear-wheel drive. The power is transmitted via a newly developed six-speed sequential sports gearbox. The suspension uses almost exclusively components from the production line. A comprehensive list of safety equipment guarantees the highest-level of passive safety. A modified front end and a large rear-wing generate the required downforce for the race track.
The Audi R8, which bears the project name “R16” within Audi Sport, was developed under the direction of Audi Sport. Mid August, the first prototype successfully completed a roll-out in the hands of Audi factory driver Frank Biela.
